Miss Westwood – Y1W
Welcome to the Y1W class page!
Every day in Year 1 is a busy one, but always fun! We love learning and always work hard to be the very best that we can be.
We enjoy learning new sounds in our Read Write Inc. sessions to develop our skills in reading and spelling. In our Literacy work we use ‘Talk for Writing’ to help us to learn stories through re-telling and story-mapping, and use this to help us with our writing. So far this year our stories have included ‘Walking Through the Jungle’, ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
In Maths we enjoy practical activities to support our learning about number, measures and shape, and love to use interactive activities on the whiteboard too.
This year we have some really exciting topics! We learn about Science, History and the world around us. Our topics this year include:
Work from the autumn term
We had great fun on our music day at Tuned In! We learnt to play the instruments and even shared our rhythms during our walk to the bandstand!
The fire service came to visit to teach us about fire safety and to help us learn about the difference between fighting fires now and during the Great Fire of London.
We loved designing and making our own animals sock puppets!
Our visit from some unusual animals and creepy crawlies as part of our ‘It’s a Wild World!’ topic.
Re-telling stories in Literacy. Can you guess the story?
Keep checking our web page for updates of work as the year goes on!
