Welcome to the Y1R Class page

My name is Mrs Raitano and I am one of the Year 1 teachers in our school. I have taught in Reception for the past four years so it has been very exciting for me to move up into Year one with the children this year – we already know each other very well!

This is an I important transition for the children as they move towards a more formal setting for their learning but we will still be having lots of fun and enjoyment as we learn.

RE

Our Prayer Area is a main focal point in the classroom and the children will always be involved in creating our new displays for each topic.

Reading Dojos

Each child has their own Reading Dojo and they collect a point every time they read their school reading book at home. The children will receive a certificate when they have collected the required amount of points for each stage and their Dojos will be moved up the chart. The children will also receive a Dojo bookmark after collecting 50 points and an exciting prize if they reach 200 points at the end of the school year.

Termly Topics

Autumn Term – ‘It’s a Wild World’

Spring Term – ‘The Great Fire of London’

Summer Term – ‘All at Sea’

Watch this space for some exciting displays linked to our topics!

Literacy

During the first half term the children have worked on the stories Walking Through the Jungle and Dear Zoo. They have used their Talk for Writing to join in with the stories using actions and words. The children also practise reading in their daily phonics Read Write Inc. lessons where you will always hear lots of ‘Fred Talk’.

Numeracy

The children have been learning about numbers to 100 in their daily numeracy lessons. They have been working on number sentences for addition and subtractions and we will be learning all about 2D and 3D shapes next.
