Miss McCarthy – Year 1Mc
Welcome to Y1MMc’s class page!
Here in year 1, we love learning. We have been working so hard in all areas of school!
So far this year, we have been so busy learning lots of new skills. We have been working on our reading skills during Read Write Inc, which has even helped us in our writing!
In our literacy learning, we use Talk4Writing to support us. This involves learning and sequencing stories to give us lots of ideas for our independent writing.
So far our stories have included: Walking Through the Jungle, The Enormous Turnip and The Three Little Pigs. We have also looked at other genres of writing such as poetry and postcards.
Retelling our favourite stories in literacy. Can you guess which one?
In maths we have been covering a wide range of topics, such as number, calculations and shape! In order to support our learning we often do lots of practical activities and we really enjoy singing to support our learning.
During our autumn term, we had so much fun learning about the world around us in our topic ‘It’s a Wild World’.
To begin our topic we had an exciting visit from lots of unusual creatures, such as cockroaches, skunks and snails. Many of us were even brave enough to hold them!
Meeting a very friendly Tortoise and Tarantula
We are now beginning our spring term topic ‘The Great Fire of London’. We have already had a very special visit from Grangetown Fire Brigade, who helped understand the difference between the fire service then and now.
Here is a video we like which explains the key events from The Great Fire of London:
